COLOR POP!

Hello Lovers and Happy Easter! What always comes to mind for me during this time of the year is the Easter Parade and all the little girls wearing candy colored Easter dresses. I love color. I was that kid that always wanted the 64 or 128 box of Crayola crayons so that I can put different combinations together. This wall gave me that Crayola nostalgia and all things Easter. Today's post has some blasts from my closet's past. My top and pants are from Forever 21+ which are oldies but goodies. Lace was not a favorite of mines as a kid because all I can think of was doilies and grannies, but as an adult, lace can be a cool moto jacket, like this one from Eloquii, or in crop top. Coral is a go to color, especially in a slim fit pant. To me, its a happy medium color, its bright, but it is not as shocking as traditional orange.  For more color, I went with neon stud earrings and a bright pink lip. In the spirit of trying new things, I was on the hunt for a pair of white pumps. One of my biggest challenges was finding a pair of white pumps that were sexy. While checking out Instagram, BCBG posted these BCBGeneration pumps, and I fell in love. Share with me how you wear color. Tag #styleoversize on Instagram or email me at styleoversize@gmail.com. I am starting a page sharing everyone's looks.

Emme Spring Fashion Show

This past Thursday, the Lollipop Princess and I attended the Spring Fashion Show at Macy's Herald Square. The show was hosted by Emme, which for those that do not know she is a pioneer in the plus size modeling world. Emme was the first plus size model to walk in a major runway show as well as be featured in major ad campaigns.  Currently, she is working with Syracuse University and launched Fashion Without Limits. This initiative teaches next generation designers how to design for all size women. Normally, design students are taught how to design on a size 4 model, but this programs teaches them also how to design for a size 12. This is exciting, because there are a lot of up and coming designers that can create some beautiful designs for all women. Fashion should never exclude in my opinion, and I am happy that Emme & Syracuse University are changing that. Now let's get back to the fashion show. Emme went over the biggest trends of the season: Florals, Daytime Shine, Full Skirts, and Yellow.  The show had some great pieces from Calvin Klein, American Rag, and Michael Michael Kors.

At the event, I met Chantè from Everything Curvy and Chic. This was her first time walking in a fashion show, and from the way she owned it, I couldn't even tell. I met her after the show, and she was down to earth, funny, and gave me some great advice. Definitely check out her blog, she slays! Also, I ran into Sarah from Curvily. She was very encouraging to me when I was thinking about blogging. Anytime I run into her we end up chatting for at least an hour on fashion.

For the event, I went with my Heathered Midi Dress from  Forever 21+. This dress is $20, it is soft, and not clingy at all. It hugs my curves in all the right places without feeling the least bit constricting. I paired it with my favorite jacket from Eloquii. It encompasses all of the major trends of the season: Neoprene and Bold Florals. Anytime I wear this jacket  I receive tons of compliments. Since it was a rainy day in NYC, I wore my motorcycle boots from DV Dolce Vita.  My necklace is from H&M.

JOIE DE VIVRE!

You do not know how happy I am to be able to go around my borough of the Bronx and take some new pics. The past few months have been tough with arctic temps, snow, and ice, but finally Spring is showing itself and I am more than happy about it.

To commemorate the occasion, I went with one of my recent scores from Nordstrom. I love their Halogen brand. Halogen has been a favorite for over a year now due to their fun prints and sayings. I was eyeing this sweater, and while home during a snowstorm found it on sale and snatched it up. I paired the sweater with my favorite Asos leather skirt, and my Old Navy Leopard Coat. The shoes are also from Nordstrom's Halogen brand, and have been a go to all season long.

I do not know who created this lovely backdrop, but every time I look at it, it makes me happier. Love what you see, let me know in the comments. Later!

KEHINDE WILEY

On Saturday, The Lollipop Princess and I attended Target First Saturday to check out the Kehinde Wiley exhibit. His art fuses works of the old masters with people of the present. His use of color and attention to detail is exquisite. The following quote opens the exhibit

His art is amazing, and the lines just to check out the exhibit are proof of his extraordinary talent. The first work of his that I loved was Naploean Leading the Army, but after seeing his sculptures there's competition for my favorite piece.

Check out the pics to the right from the exhibit.

In regards to my outfit, I was soo happy that it was no longer single digits, I celebrated by wearing sheer and lace. I bought this super cute bra from Lane Bryant, and I wanted to show it off because the lace and cut out detail definitely needed to be seen. It's no secret that I love me a good pair of skinnies, and the two way stretch of these from Lane Bryant is a definite must have. Two way stretch holds it shape, which is good when walking around and sitting. There is nothing worse than every time you make a move you have to keep pulling and adjusting your jeans. Yeah, that's why they make belts, but I don't wear them like that lol. The top is an oldie but goodie from Forever 21. My flats are from Sam Edelman

If you are in NYC please support black art! The exhibit will be on display until May 24th.
