Happy Bloggerversary!

My how time flies...I can't believe Style Over Size is 1!!!! The past year of blogging has taught me so much and I enjoyed every single part of it. In celebration of such a great occasion, I want to wear something sparkly. My love of sequins will never die, so of course when this jumpsuit first dropped I had to have it. Jumpsuits have really become a major part of my wardrobe. With the temps starting to drop, jumpsuits are great for one and done dressing. Just because it is the winter, doesn't mean you have to tough it out in a dress. Eloquii has several great options for a night out on the town. There is this one in all sequin, a velvet one, as well as a tuxedo version. Another great thing about these jumpsuits is that they are all currently on sale. My tip when buying jumpsuits is that you should always be mindful of your thighs as well as your waist. You definitely want to make sure that you have room in your legs (because you do not want your legs to feel like you are encased in fabric) and that it creates a waistline. Now this jumpsuit is stretchy (normally I buy a 16 or 18), but this one I went down to a size 14, and it fits great. My first go around, I went with an 18, and it was wayyyy to big.

I like to mix a touch of fancy with a bit of tough, so I paired my jumpsuit with a leather biker jacket from Asos. There are three things that I feel a woman should have in her arsenal: a great dress, some jeans that make your booty look amazing, and a biker jacket. It's a piece that can easily be dressed up or down, and it makes your outfit cooler without trying. I topped off my outfit with my metallic heels from Coach.

I have been extremely appreciative and humbled everytime someone has liked a picture, commented, shared a post, or reached out to work with me. I have a great support system, and trust me that makes a difference. I don't know what I would have done without my people. This has been a great ride, and trust me there is a lot more in store. Stay tuned lovers!!

Vested Interest

As a jacket obsessed woman, the next logical thing that will be on my radar is a vest. I enjoy long vests, sleeveless coats, whatever you want to call them, they are a good versatile piece for the winter. I wear one to work to help combat the chill under my coat, and when the weather is not artic, I wear it with a nice sweater. My vest of choice is from Eloquii. In addition to keeping me warm, I love it's rich burgandy color. Burgandy is one of those colors that you can pair it with any color and it makes everything better. I have been wearing nothing but black as of late, so I wanted to switch it up and pair it with navy. I love the way the color combo looks. Granted I am keeping it casual by wearing jeans, but the whole outfit looks a lot richer by pairing these two colors together. Once again, I am wearing another turtleneck from the Gap. I am telling you, go ahead and get this turtleneck. I wear a size 18-20 in tops, and the XL fits well. So for all my ladies that are 20+, the XXL is a must have and it's on sale!

I can not stop wearing my boyfriend jeans from Lane Bryant. I love the slim fit and and the two way stretch ensures a great fit. I paired the outfit with my Nine West lace up flats. I first bought these in the fall, and loved them so much I bought them in another color. I am eyeing the navy color next, so pray for my wallet..lol. My hologram crossbody is from Banana Republic. I found this on sale in the store (over 60% off the original), it's currently sold out online, but the tote is still available. I love hologram accessories. They pick up the colors in whatever you are wearing and takes any outfit up a notch. You will be seeing a lot more of this bag. What do you think lovers? Am I brunch ready?

Daytime Shine

Happy 2016 Lovers! Another year, another 365 to accomplish my never ending to do list. I am big on putting pen to paper and making lists for myself. I lucked out this Christmas and received a wonderfully cute Kate Spade notebook so I can write down all my ideas for blog posts. The first thing on my list was to do a post featuring this backdrop.

It was such a nice sunny day, I wanted to wear something fun. I love this skirt from Harper & Liv. It is made entirely of matte black sequins. It looks as though they made out of leather, so from far away it looks as if I am wearing a textured skirt. This skirt fits like a dream and it's a great piece that you can wear during the day and then easily add some strappy heels and wear it out for drinks. I paired the skirt with Harper & Liv's faux leather moto which I first wore in Rock & Roll. It looks somewhat different all due to the removable collar. Items that can give you a multitude of looks with just the slightest change can quadruple your wardrobe looks. The temps are starting to drop in NYC, so I went with a turtleneck sweater. Turtlenecks are a must have for me in the winter. They are the perfect layering piece under dresses or jackets. I get so many more uses from my sleeveless dresses just by adding a turtleneck underneath. Warm, but still looking good is always my goal. Since the skirt length hit perfectly above my knee, I felt a good pair of OTK boots would be perfect. These are oldies but goodies, but Lane Bryant has a similar pair available (and currently on sale). What do you think? Do you wear sequins during the day, or do you save it for the night time? Sound off in the comments!

2015

I can't believe it, another year coming to a close. The older I get, the faster I feel time is passing. A lot has happened to me this year, good and bad like anyone else, but I really wanted to share with you my biggest takeaways as well as some of my favorite outfits from 2015.

  • JUST DO IT- I finally stopped procrastinating and launched my blog. I stopped putting it off and got serious and bought a domain, and the rest is history. I was scared that I might not be good enough, or my pictures would not be on point, but you know what, I had to start somewhere. It paid off, and I still have so much more to accomplish. I went from on average 200 viewers to now over 1000 in a month, I am knocking on the door to 1000 Instagram followers. I worked with some great brands and did two blogger collaborations! I was featured in City Style Life, and was a guest contributor on The Curvy Fashionista. Not bad in my opinion. Not bad at all Jami. None of this would have happened if I didn't buy that domain. So if there is a something that you have a passion for, please try. Good or bad, you won't know.

  • MAKE AMENDS- I lost my Aunt this year, and for years we did not speak because of an argument. Arguments happen everyday, but I did not make any effort afterwards to reach out. I let it be, and so did she. We may not have had the chance to work through our problems, but I made sure I went to her funeral to say goodbye. I mourned and made peace with what happened between us. Saying goodbye under those circumstances is not ideal for any person, but it was needed. I have learned not go ghost when things get ugly. Say what bothers me, and move on. It doesn't mean that everything is going to go back to what it once was. Even if means just making peace and walking away, I can leave knowing that I did what I could.

  • I CAN'T DO EVERYTHING- Outside of Style Over Size I have a full time career. I want to do everything, go to every fashion event, and still go home and spend time with my family. There are times when I have to stay late at work to get the projections out on time, or go home to spend time with family. Regardless of what I have to do, I have to make time for myself. Twice a month I get a fresh blowout and a mani, and if I end up not doing anything for an entire weekend, I don't beat myself up. I will always have a To Do List (speaking of which, I need to get my ticket for BlogHer...see what I mean), but I try to do little things for myself to unwind. Don't get me wrong, I love being able to check things off my list, but you know what I can't do it all- just do what I can, and do it well.

  • GIVE MYSELF MORE CREDIT- Last year I accepted a new position in my company. It was a much needed fresh start. Prior to the new position, I wanted to take on more responsibility and went to my supervisor. She did not feel that I had the skill set to handle the promotion. I was stunned and hurt, that the area I worked in for years and had a great report with many different teams, that my own supervisor did not think I was capable of handling the role. I decided to leave and pursue something new. Now I was definitely scared, because what if she was right and I couldn't handle it? I got to my new area, and I thrived. I learned, shared experiences, and overall truly learned a lot. I built new connections, and really came into my own. Even though I was growing, I did not expect ten months into the role, I would be offered a promotion!! That's right- me?!? I get so caught up at times with the things I still needed to learn or do, or the mistakes I made, that I hardly took the time to relish in my progress. So when I start getting in my head, I take a step back and give myself credit for what I have going for myself. There is always going to be more to learn, but I am working on celebrating what I have accomplished.
