Camouflage

Kay Jay and I are back with another His & Hers. One of the biggest trends this season is Camo, and I knew it was something that would definitely work for the both of us. As 80’s babies raised during the 90’s camo rained supreme in the hoods of NYC. It was something about wearing camo that makes you feel like you are ready for anything. Granted the goal of camo is to hide, but wearing it just makes you stand out.

For our first look, I went with this great camouflage romper called the Big Drip from Phat Girl Fresh collaboration with the Wendy S Collection. Let me tell you that this romper is amazing. I am wearing a size 2 and it gives you the perfect amount of slouchiness and still looks sexy & badass. I belted mines with my Gucci belt and added a bit of flair with my Doc Marten Glitter Jadon’s. The romper was such a hit that she dropped more colors, showcased them during NYFW and they all sold out multiple times. I hope they bring them back, perhaps as a full jumpsuit cause this was a great and comfortable piece that I will wear for years to come.

Kay Jay went with a traditional Olive Army Jacket from the Army Surplus Store. The jackets are great quality and can work for any man or woman regardless of size. My first pair of camo pants came from the Army Surplus store. Back then, when it came to finding pants that would work for my plus size body, I would have to get men’s clothes. Now I don’t have to just rely on men’s clothes to get the look I want. If I want to shop the men’s section it’s out of want instead of need like before. The landscape of plus has definitely changed within the last ten years and I am happy to see more prints and color incorporated in not only classic silhouettes but in fun trendy pieces.

Ok, back to Kay Jay’s look. With his olive jacket he paired them with an olive Polo by Ralph Lauren thermal long sleeve shirt. These are a staple for him, he has them in a bunch of colors and he uses them for layering under sweaters when the temps drop or just wear them on their own. Another staple in his wardrobe is a good pair of Levi’s, and his go to are the straight leg jeans. He ended his look with the Jordan Retro 11 Lowtops.

For my second look I rocked this crop camo hoodie with some leather pants from Eloquii. In the fall there are three things you will see me wearing- sweaters, leather, and sweatshirts. I’m all about pieces that can be layered and still garner compliments. What I like about this cropped hoodie are the sleeves. The detailing on this hoodie makes it different from anything I own. Since buying, I have worn it several times so it was worth the purchase. I am wearing a size 18/20, and it gives me the length I need to show some skin. If camo is not your speed it does come in black. As the addict for all things leather, I had to have these pleated pants. These are a size 18, and I will say after wearing them a couple of times they did stretch a bit, but nothing too drastic. When it comes to leather pants, I rather have a little room versus no room. You don’t want to run the risk of splitting your pants. I ended my look with this super cute combat boots from JustFab. Great thing about them is that they are wide width!!

Kay Jay went with the traditional Army jacket with a faded black jean from Polo. When it comes to black jeans, he always has two pairs in his rotation. One faded, one more opaque. He kept his same Polo thermal with this look, but added this cool olive and black scarf to play off the camo print. As a New Yorker, no wardrobe is complete without a pair of Timberland’s either their classic silhouette or a good pair of field boots. Kay Jay is looking for a pair of 40 Below’s (a nod to our childhood, so if you come across a pair let me know).

We had fun shooting these looks. The weather was great, and we found this cool warehouse while walking around in my neighborhood. It was funny, while we were shooting a man showed us a spot where they have bull riding. So the last four pics of us, are from where the bull riding is held. Kay Jay went inside- yeah I was not going in there…lol, but I did get a great shot of him so it was all worth it. 2019 has been good to us, we both started new jobs, we went on our first vacation, and we are definitely ready for what 2020 has in store. Camo does that to you, has you ready to take on anything that comes your way.
